Confined Space

Safety: Confined Space

The Confined Space is a closed space & does not have adequate ventilation, so the Confined Space should not be occupied by people for a long time.

Some forms of Confined Spaces:
- Tanks
- Sewers
- Silos
- Storage bins
- Holes
- Tunnels

At first glance, Confined Spaces seem harmless, but the fact is that Confined Spaces are full of dangers that can cause death:
- Lack of oxygen
- Presence of odorless & colorless toxic gases: H2S, carbon monoxide, methane
- Presence of flammable & explosive objects: Power lines, machines
- Presence of liquids & mud that can drown you
- Presence of slippery surfaces, extreme temperatures & falling objects

Most people who die in Confined Spaces are:
- Confined Space Workers
- Rescue Teams who attempt to save victims in Confined Spaces but do not use the proper PPE & do not have the ability to carry out Safety & Emergency Procedures

Confined Spaces require:
- Rigorous planning
- Air testing
- Permit to Work
- Safety, Emergency & Rescue Procedures

Top Advice:
- Never assume that you can get in & out of a Confined Space easily & quickly!
- If you are going to work in a Confined Space, invest in your life & safety by taking the right Confined Space Training!
- Encourage your workplace & your team to take the required Confined Space Training & implement Safety, Emergency & Rescue Procedures

It is better to have the right & required knowledge & skills now before it is too late, through an accident!

The Importance Of HSE

Safety: The Importance Of HSE

HSE implemented in high-risk industries (Construction, Oil & Gas, Mining, Manufacturing, Electricity & others) provides protection to people (employees & clients), assets (buildings, factories, offices & workplaces) & the environment.

HSE is a process to:
- Create a safe, sustainable & productive workplace
- Ensure that the work being done is safe
- Ensure the use of PPE
- Identify, minimize & control hazards that may occur in the workplace: Broken machine, short circuits, gas, chemicals, falls, explosion, fire & natural disasters
- Identify, minimize & control risks that may occur in the workplace: Injuries, illnesses & deaths
- Maintain employee health by ensuring ventilation, preventing injuries & body problems (vision, breathing & others) & deaths
- Provide mental health support by avoiding stress
- Improve employee well-being
- Ensure maintenance of assets, equipment, workplaces & environment
- Minimize environmental impacts by protecting ecosystems from pollution, reducing waste & controlling emissions

Foundations of HSE Compliance:
- Employees receive proper training on HSE, Safety & Emergency
- Employees must have knowledge of Safety Protocols & Emergency Procedures
- Review & update HSE Policies periodically based on new incidents, dangers & risks
- Comply with regulations

Benefits of HSE Compliance in the workplace:
- Reduce & eliminate the possibility of accidents, illnesses, deaths & environmental damage in the workplace
- Ability to handle emergencies
- Increase employee productivity
- Improve company reputation
- Increase regulatory compliance
- Reduce & eliminate the possibility of costs incurred due to accidents, injuries, deaths, lawsuits & environmental fines

HSE Compliance will build trust from employees, partners, clients & the public towards the company & create success in the company too!

Offshore Emergency, Lifeboat And Coxswain

Safety And Survival: Offshore Emergency, Lifeboat, And Coxswain

Without having the right & required skills, it is tough to survive when an emergency occurs at Sea & Offshore.

The reason why Sea & Offshore are dangerous areas:
- Far from immediate help
- Conditions at Sea & Offshore are unpredictable
- Strong waves, currents, cold water & others

Lifeboats are essential to be used at Sea & Offshore when emergencies occur:
- Accidents & fire at a ship, boat, sea, or offshore
- Storms & others

Lifeboats present at Sea & Offshore are designed to:
- Ensure safety at Sea & Offshore
- Rescue victims from emergencies
- Keep victims afloat & protected until help arrives
- Provide necessary equipment: Food, drinking water, First Aid

Offshore Lifeboats must be handled by a Coxswain who is responsible for directing the Lifeboat during emergencies.

Some of the roles of a Coxswain:
- Operate the Lifeboat safely in Sea & Offshore
- Direct victims to a safer place
- Ensure everyone is wearing PPE & following Safety Procedures
- Use the radio to coordinate with rescue teams or nearby vessels
- Ensure the survival of everyone

Basic Fire Fighting

Safety: Basic Fire Fighting

The knowledge of Basic Fire Fighting is needed to prevent, control & extinguish small fires safely & effectively. This knowledge is necessary for everyone to know so they can handle fires in the workplace, home & other public areas.

Prevent fires by:
- Recognizing fire hazards: Flammable materials, faulty electrical equipment, uncontrolled fires
- Storing chemicals, hot objects & other hazardous materials properly
- Maintaining equipment regularly
- Avoiding overloading electrical outlets

Important Keys about Fire:
- Fire needs 3 elements to burn: Heat, fuel & oxygen
- Extinguish the fire by removing one of the 3 elements: Closing the fire with a blanket will remove the oxygen, or cooling the fire with water will reduce the heat

Fire Extinguisher Technique:
- Pull the pin to open the extinguisher
- Point the extinguisher at the base of the fire
- Press the handle to release the extinguishing agent
- Spray from side to side to fight the fire

Warning:
- Evacuate immediately if the fire becomes too big
- Keep your face down to avoid the smoke
- Do not use the elevator during a fire

Best advice:
- Prevent fires!
- Protect & save lives, assets & property!
- Avoid losses!

- Handling wounds by cleaning & dressing them to prevent infection
- Relieving choking by removing blockages
- Handling burns by using water
- Handling shock by keeping someone calm after an injury
- Handling seizures
- Preventing further harm

Equipment commonly used when performing First Aid:
- First Aid Kit
- Bandages
