Steps To Survive At Sea

Some of the right steps to survive when an accident at sea occurs:

- Stay Calm: Panic will reduce your ability to think clearly & will not solve the problem. Take a deep breath & try to manage stress, stay calm & focus on saving yourself. Maintaining a positive mindset can also help to stay focused on keeping yourself & surviving. You can focus your mind on taking the right steps to safety.
- Stay Afloat: Use available PPE to keep yourself above water: life jackets, life rafts & others. Also, look for all floating objects that can increase your chances of floating.
- Signal For Help: Use flares, whistles, mirrors & any shiny objects to ask for help from other aircraft & ships. Make yourself visible to rescuers.
- Find Shelter: Exposure to weather can be deadly. Therefore, stay in the Lifeboat to protect yourself from the weather & heat from the sun.
- Save Energy: Conserve energy in the body & reduce fatigue by minimizing movement. If you need to move, move at night so that the heat of the sun can be avoided & energy can be saved. Be aware of the surroundings & currents.
- Stay Hydrated: Avoid drinking seawater as it can cause dehydration. Drink fresh water by collecting rainwater.
- Find Food: Look for available food sources: fish, birds & seaweed. Make sure that the food is safe.

Hopefully, the steps above can help you to have a good adventure at sea :-)
