Offshore Emergency Helideck Team

Incidents & accidents can always happen when we travel by Helicopter. The #incident & #accident that usually occur when the Helicopter is about to land & are already on the Helideck:
- Helicopter crashes into other Helicopters or various equipment on the Helideck (cranes & more)
- Fire & #explosion occurred on Helicopter
- Helicopter crashed into Helideck

The incidents & accidents above can occur due to:
- The Helicopter was hit by a very strong wind
- The fuel has leaked
- The #engine on the #Helicopter (#rotor & others) is damaged
- The #pilot has made a mistake

Because emergency situations can always occur at Helideck which is located offshore, Helideck always needs an Offshore Emergency Helideck Team that can handle emergencies. This team must have the ability to:
- Have knowledge of Helicopters, breathing apparatus, hazards that usually occur on Helideck & more
- Have knowledge of dangerous goods that can interfere with Helicopters & Helidecks
- Have knowledge of fuel & techniques for refueling
- Use & provide #PPE, SCBA & more
- Handle incidents that occur in Helicopters & Helideck
- Extinguish fires that occur in Helicopters & #Helideck by using #fire fighting equipment
- #Rescue the victims
- Handle injured & stressed & traumatized victims

Emergency Breathing System at Helicopter Underwater Escape

The time it takes for passengers to escape from a submerged / inverted Helicopter underwater is around 45 – 60 seconds. Of course this cannot be done by humans because we can only hold our breath for 20 seconds. Yes, our ability to hold our #breath is limited. To extend our time underwater & increase our chances of survival, we need an Emergency Breathing System (EBS). EBS will be carried when personnel #travel by Helicopter to a warm Offshore Oil & Gas Installation located in a tropical #environment. EBS will assist personnel to escape from Helicopters & water (sea) when an emergency occurs offshore. The EBS will give them the ability to extend their time underwater so they can escape from the Helicopter that is inverted as a result of an uncontrolled water impact.

While traveling to & from Offshore Oil & Gas Installations in #tropical environments by Helicopter, the personnel must also have the ability to:
- Gain knowledge about various things that will happen while in the Helicopter (check-in, boarding, in-flight, landing & more)
- Know about Helicopter Safety Requirements
- Know about the dangers that will be faced while on the Helicopter
- Use safety equipment
- Respond to an emergency that occurs in the Helicopter
- Follow the procedures to do when an #emergency occurs on the Helicopter
- #Escape from Helicopter when #Helicopter is on water surface & #underwater
- Survive in the #sea using EBS

Confined Space Safety – Entry and Rescue

When an #emergency occurs in a Confined Space, the workers who work in it must be rescued immediately. In order for the Rescue Team to carry out an effective rescue effort in a Confined Space #environment to rescue the workers affected by an #incident, they must have the ability to:

- Know about Confined Space Rules

- Know about procedures to work safely

- Plan rescue actions

- Ensure that all workers have a Work Permit so that they can enter & exit the Confined Space safely

- Provide & use #PPE, respiratory #protective equipment, SCBA, helmets, safety jackets, equipment used to carry out the retrieval process, equipment used to enter, equipment used to exit, ropes used to tie, lock & rescue & more

- Check the #ventilator

- Control physical hazards, atmospheric hazards, #gas hazards & more

- Communicate with workers who are inside the Confined Space & various other parties outside the Confined Space

- Perform #rescue actions to save victims by using stretchers, ropes & more

- Handle various injuries & problems that interfere with the #health, spine & lives of the victims

Control Room Operator

The role of Control Room Operators (CRO) during emergency situations at their working area is very important because they have to react to prevent / minimize the effects of an #incident. Some of the work they have to do are:

- Informing about Emergency & Safety Procedures

- Identifying & reporting emergencies

- Taking proper training

- Working safely according to #Security & Safety Regulations

- Knowing about the status of equipment to detect, protect, communicate & carry out evacuation

- Identifying faulty systems & their #mitigation

- Accessing operation status, simultaneous #operation, information on #weather conditions & information on availability of Emergency Response Personnel

- Identifying & monitoring critical situations in the work area

- Activating all alarms

- Taking actions to control #critical situations

- Taking actions to minimize risks to personnel, work, #plant & equipment

- Taking actions to #secure the situation by activating the #Emergency Response Team, providing facilities, notifying the Liaison Installations & #Guard Officers about the required facilities, conducting #isolation, conducting #evacuation & others

- Communicating all information & instructions to personnel

- Coordinating #response to emergencies

- Clarifying & following up on #information & #feedback received

Helicopter Underwater Escape

The Helicopter accidents at Offshore Oil & Gas sites have caused the loss of many lives worldwide. The accidents on Helicopters usually occur due to:

- The damaged machinery & equipment inside the Helicopter

- The disturbances & obstacles that make the Helicopter unable to land / fly perfectly

- The leak in the #fuel that causes a #fire

- The mistake done by the pilots

- The bad weather conditions

- The failed operation of Helicopter system

- The dangerous goods are placed near the Helicopter

In order for you to react properly when an emergency occurs on an Offshore Helicopter, you must have the proper abilities to:

- Know about the #flight process that will occur when you are in the Helicopter (take off & land)

- Know about the Helicopter Safety Requirements

- Know about the dangers that will occur on the Helicopter

- Check all #PPE, safety & survival equipment

- #Secure & #save yourself when an emergency occurs in the Helicopter

- Escape from the Helicopter when an #emergency occurs in the Helicopter (above the water & underwater)

- Escape from the Helicopter when the #Helicopter is inverted #underwater

- #Evacuate yourself & others

- Survive offshore
