Working at Height is one of the biggest causes of death & injury. Workers usually fall from stairs & are on fragile surfaces/roofs.
Here are a few steps you can take to make Working at Heights safe:
- Working at Height must be planned, supervised & carried out by workers who already have the knowledge, ability & experience to do the job
- Workers must use suitable, stable, robust & maintained & inspected Equipment for Working at Height (PPE, safety ropes, anchors, connecting devices, ladders, guardrails & more)
- Workers must have the ability to prevent accidents at the place where they work
- Workers must have knowledge of the severity of the task to be carried out, the duration & frequency of the work & the condition of the surface to be worked on
- Workers must ensure that their place of work is safe & secured
- Working on fragile places/surfaces & various objects that may fall should be avoided
- Workers should not carry items & equipment that are heavier than their ladders & body support
- If an accident occurs, workers & other personnel must be able to carry out rescue actions & the evacuation process
