Confined Space Attendants are employees who work to reduce the death rate in Confined Spaces & save lives. Some of the things they should do are:
- Staying outside of the Confined Space
- Monitoring the safety of other workers in the Confined Space
- Monitoring hazards & atmospheric conditions
- Maintaining access to Confined Space so it should not be entered by workers who do not have a permit to work
- Alerting workers when there are conditions that will lead to an emergency
- Calling Rescue Officers & emergency assistance if needed
Working as the Confined Space Attendant should not be carried out by:
- Entry-level employees who have not been properly trained in Confined Space safety
- Firefighters who are off-duty & untrained to handle Confined Spaces
- Other workers who are not part of the team assigned to work in Confined Spaces
The advantage of having the trained Confined Space Attendants is that they can review:
- Permit To Work
- Tasks to do
- Necessary PPE & equipment
- Atmospheric conditions
