Role Of HDA And Emergency On Helideck

Role Of HDA

Helideck Assistants (HDA) are personnel who work closely with the Helideck Landing Officer (HLO) to achieve the Safety Target at Helideck. HDA is also part of the Helideck Emergency Response Team.

Some responsibilities that must be carried out by HDA:
- Ensure safe and smooth operation of the Helideck and Helicopter
- Ensure safety and efficiency on the Helideck: Before, during, and after the operation
- Ensure that Helicopters can safely land and take off at Offshore Facilities (oil rigs, ships, etc.) or even land-based Heliports
- Assist and support HLO in various routine operations on the Helideck
- Maintain and test equipment
- Ensure safe embarkation and disembarkation of passengers boarding and disembarking from Helicopters
- Handle the transfer of goods and baggage to and from the Helicopter
- Handle emergencies on the Helicopter and Helideck

If an emergency occurs on the Helicopter and Helideck, HDA will take several actions:
- Provide information to responsible parties to help respond to emergencies: Emergency Response Team, Rescue Team, and HLO
- Remain calm and follow directions and instructions from the Emergency Response Team, Rescue Team, and HLO
- Prioritize the safety of all personnel and crew on the Helicopter and Helideck
- Extinguish the fire
- Carry out the Evacuation procedures quickly and calmly by directing everyone in the Helicopter and Helideck to leave the Helicopter and Helideck and move to the designated gathering point/emergency place
- Provide medical assistance
- Check and report the state and condition of the Helicopter, Helideck, and people, especially in the event of injury or death

Emergency On Helideck

The Helideck is a special area that has special equipment, so not everyone can enter the Helideck. Only those who have been trained may enter the Helideck. Therefore, not everyone can extinguish fires that occur on the Helideck.

If a fire or emergency occurs on the Helideck, several things that must be done are:
- Prioritizing self-safety
- Calling the teams that can help: Emergency Response Team, Rescue Team, HLO and HDA
- Using Communication Equipment to notify the Emergency Response Team, Rescue Team, HLO, and HDA of the location where the fire or emergency occurs
- Complying with and carrying out instructions given by the Emergency Response Team, Rescue Team, HLO and HDA
- Top priority: Immediately carrying out the Evacuation Process safely
- Using predetermined escape routes
- Self-protecting from smoke
- Self-protecting in a safe place, including behind a fireproof place

Helidecks usually have their fire extinguishers and trained Emergency Response Team, Rescue Team, HLO, and HDA who have knowledge of:
- Emergency Response Plan and Process
- Ways to extinguish fires properly
