Strategies to improve safety & security when traveling by boat:
* Preparation before traveling:
- Awareness of the risks & hazards of traveling to & from an offshore installation & ways to handle it
- Understand Navigation & Safety Rules & Procedures
- Have knowledge of restricted items when traveling by Boat
- Have knowledge of traveling by Boat Safely
- Have knowledge of how to handle seasickness & hypothermia
- Ask yourself: Can I swim?
- Inform family & employer about travel plans: Destination, time, date & more
* When conducting the traveling:
- Do not consume alcohol & drugs!
- Check weather, water, wind & wave conditions
- Check the boat & equipment
- Ensure safety equipment: Life jacket, fire extinguisher, first aid kit, flare, radio, lifeline, whistle, flashlight & signaling device
- Wear a life jacket
- Have a principle of not leaving yourself & others alone at sea: Never leave anyone, especially children & women, at sea unsupervised
- Ensure the boat is operated at a safe speed
- At night or when there is fog: Ensure navigation lights are working & use radar or GPS
- Prevent damage to the boat: Avoid coral reefs & things that can damage the boat
- If an emergency occurs: Stay on the boat & ask for help via radio & signal for help
