Safety: Rescue Procedures in Confined Spaces
Most deaths occurred at the Confined Spaces are caused by:
- Emergency: Limited access, poor ventilation, lack of oxygen, toxic substances & gas, fire & explosion
- Being in a Confined Space without oxygen for more than 3 minutes
- Untrained individuals conducted the Rescue Operations
Categories of Rescue Procedures in Confined Spaces:
- Rescue Actions that must be taken immediately: When lack of oxygen, explosion & fire occur in Confined Spaces
- Rescue Actions that do not have to be taken immediately: When workers are injured
Rescue Procedures taken when an emergency occurs in Confined Spaces:
- Workers rescue themselves by removing themselves from the Confined Space & their actions are monitored by the Rescue Team from outside the Confined Space
- Workers rescue themselves by exiting the Confined Space using equipment (ropes, belts) operated by the Rescue Team from outside
- Rescue Team enters the Confined Space & rescues workers using the necessary equipment
For Rescue Procedures can be carried out properly in Confined Spaces, the workers & Rescue Teams must:
- Take the Confined Space, Emergency & Rescue Training before working in Confined Spaces
- Use PPE & special equipment when entering Confined Spaces
- Carry out the Confined Spaces Work Procedures & Safety Procedures
