Electrical Safety
Put safety first, including when using electricity!
Electrical Safety can prevent damage, injury & death caused by electrical hazards.
Electrical Safety Principles:
- Electrical hazards: Electricity can cause electric shock, fire, explosion, injury & death
- Sources of electrical hazards: Faulty equipment, improper electrical wiring & others
Electrical Safety Procedures:
- Use circuit breakers & fuses to protect against excessive electrical current
- When electricity is not in use, disconnect electricity by unplugging the power cord from the power source
- Use Electrical Lockout Devices to prevent children & the elderly from using electricity
- Use proper PPE: PPE that meets standards, gloves, fire-resistant clothing, face shields
- Use safe tools when working near electricity
- Keep a safe distance from high-voltage electricity to avoid accidental contact
- Keep electricity away from water, damp areas, objects & others
- Regularly maintain electricity, cables & equipment to detect & prevent damage, cracks & excessive heat
- Replace damaged electrical cables & equipment immediately
- Train workers who work with electricity or work near electricity so that they have knowledge of the dangers & risks of electricity & have the ability to handle it
- Follow the appropriate rules & codes
When an emergency occurs at electricity:
- Turn off the power source first
- Use non-conductive tools to separate the victim from the power source
