Workplace Safety And Fire Safety

Workplace Safety And Fire Safety

Workplace Safety & Fire Safety are essential to protect employees, property & business continuity.

Ways to prevent & handle fires in the workplace:

- Create & implement Safety Procedures, including procedures for extinguishing fires, procedures for storing flammable materials properly & procedures for assisting those who need special treatment (disabled, elderly). All of these procedures are adjusted to the location, building type, number of workers, hazards, risks & others.
- Ensure that all workers comply with all procedures & regulations that have been made & implemented
- Assign the right workers to prevent & handle fires: Security Team, Safety Team, Fire Fighting Team
- Provide, use & maintain appropriate safety equipment, smoke detectors, alarms, emergency lights & fire extinguishers
- Determine Evacuation Procedures, evacuation routes & gathering places
- Identify potential fire hazards: Damaged electricity & machinery, flammable materials (gases, liquids, chemicals & goods)
- Train employees regularly & periodically (2 – 4 times a year) to ensure everyone knows what to do if a fire occurs: How to identify potential fires, use fire extinguishers, extinguish fires & carry out Evacuation Procedures (exit the building safely through the right route, gather at the gathering place & count the number of workers who have carried out the Evacuation Process)
- Review & update Safety Procedures & fire extinguishing procedures annually based on changes & latest information to maintain Safety Standards
- Record all Safety activities to ensure ongoing compliance & readiness

Suggestion: Companies that operate in high-risk industries are advised to conduct Fire Fighting Training 4 times a year.

Role Of The CRO As The First Point Of Contact And Backbone of Emergency Response

Safety: Role Of The CRO As The First Point Of Contact And Backbone of Emergency Response

Control Room Operators (CROs) are essential & play a vital role in emergency response as they are the “First Point of Contact” in an emergency. When an emergency occurs, the information & instructions given by the CRO greatly influence the safety measures that must be taken so that all parties can be saved.

CROs are one of the “Backbones” of emergency response!

CROs need proper knowledge of the operations in the company & its Security & Safety Procedures so they can:
- Work safely by regulation & Safe Systems of Work
- Protect personnel, assets & the environment
- Monitor operations & situations in the company
- Monitor equipment, warning signs, alarms & communication systems
- Maintain a state of readiness
- Detect incidents that occur
- Stay calm & make the right decisions based on the incident that occurs
- Identify all conditions that may affect the emergency response
- Initiate emergency response immediately, directly & promptly
- Reduce risks to personnel & operations by shutting down equipment
- Coordinate pre-established Emergency Protocols & Safety Procedures to the Security Team, Safety Team & other parties
- Provide appropriate, accurate & necessary information & instructions to on-site personnel & Emergency Response Team to ensure that all parties are aligned in their actions, reduce confusion & increase efficiency of response efforts
- Activate equipment required for safety purposes
- Give instructions for Evacuation Process
- Take control to ensure that safety measures have been taken
- Minimize other potential hazards by isolating the scene of the incident so that its impact can be reduced
- Prevent & minimize the effect of an incident
- Make reports & give them to the management of the company

Helicopter Emergencies

Safety: Helicopter Emergencies

Offshore & oil & gas workers often travel by helicopter over the sea. When traveling by helicopter, they must be prepared to deal with emergencies that occur on the helicopter:
- Engine failure in the helicopter
- Fire in the helicopter
- Helicopter crashing into the water
- Helicopter sinking & flipping in the water

Note: Helicopters flip after sinking because helicopters are designed to be top-heavy.

Therefore, they must have knowledge about:
- Hazards in Helicopter Operations (rotor blades, engines & others)
- Situation (wind, rain, waves, darkness)
- Helicopter Safety requirements
- Safety & survival equipment in the helicopter (PPE, life jackets & breathing apparatus)
- Disorientation
- Lack of visibility due to smoke
- Risk of drowning
- Major causes of death in helicopter accidents
- Emergency landing: Preparation before emergency, using of PPE, emergency helicopter-ditching situation, escape from helicopter surface & underwater & rescue actions

They must have the ability to carry out Safety Procedures when an emergency occurs in a helicopter:
- Self-saving from an incident
- Releasing seat belts
- Finding & opening exit doors/windows to get out
- Getting out of a helicopter that is still on the surface of the water / has sunk & capsized safely, under control & without panic
- Surviving at sea by using a life jacket, using a life raft & giving a signal for rescue

One of the best training that can be taken is HUET (Helicopter Underwater Escape Training). HUET provides professional skills to be ready to face & handle the dangers, risks & emergencies that occur in helicopters in the water & survive. HUET is recognized as the industry standard of the offshore sector that sets strict guidelines.

The Benefit Of Drones For Companies

Technology: The Benefit Of Drones For Companies

The soul of Drones is: Accurate, Real & Efficient!

Some reasons why many companies are already using Drones in their operations:

- Drones can work better than humans: They can work longer, higher, further
- Drones are intelligent automatic tools that can be adjusted according to needs: Height, distance, time & more
- Drones can be operated remotely, so Drones are also considered tools to help employees' work & lives
- Drones are operated in real-time, so work, data & results are obtained at "now"
- Data obtained by Drones is always accurate
- Drones can be operated in all places anywhere, including in urban areas, mountains, forests, hazardous areas, disaster areas, areas with poor signal, pipelines & more
- Drones are tools that can face various conditions because they have been designed to be protected from water, dust & temperature / weather
- Drones can be combined & integrated with various applications, AI & accessories that make operation easier & more sophisticated
- AI in Drones can detect & analyze humans, vehicles, cracks, corrosion & hotspots in real time

Drones are the most sophisticated tools for:
- Making maps
- Helping the Safety & Security Process
- Conducting inspections
- Monitoring people, goods, places, activities & emergencies, including fires

Don't miss out on the sophistication of Drones for company operations!

The Importance Of HSE

Safety: The Importance Of HSE

HSE is not just a regulation in various industries, including the Oil & Gas Industry! HSE also saves lives, ensures business continuity & protects the environment. HSE is "life" for workers, companies & the environment.

All industries have their hazards: High pressure, gases, toxic chemicals, toxic materials, flammable materials & others. Without strong HSE, fires, explosions & other accidents can result in serious injuries & deaths & damage the environment.

The role of HSE in companies & industries:

- Ensure companies operate safely, smoothly, more efficiently & responsibly
- Prevent equipment & operation failures & damage
- Protect lives & prevent accidents
- Ensure appropriate response when emergencies occur
- Increase operational efficiency & cost savings
- Improve employee morale & productivity
- Create a positive work environment
- Reduce employee absenteeism
- Increase job satisfaction
- Reduce environmental impact
- Ensure waste management & pollution control to minimize environmental damage

One small mistake on the job can cause a disaster! Therefore, companies must invest heavily in their HSE Program & training to keep their employees safe & continue their operations.
