The Helicopter Load Master (HLM) plays an important role in ensuring that the presence of goods will not compromise the safety of the Helicopter.
Some work done by HLM:
- Plan load placement by considering weight distribution and balance
- Supervise loading and unloading of cargo
- Arrange the placement of cargo in the helicopter to maintain balance and safety during the flight
- Ensure all items are placed in the right place
- Prevent overloading sensitive parts of the fuselage and cargo floor by strategically placing cargo
- Calculate the optimal center of gravity for the helicopter and ensure it remains within permissible limits throughout the journey
- Ensure that the weight of cargo does not interfere with the helicopter and its flight: The helicopter must not become tilted due to overload!
The knowledge must be had:
- Heliport
- Helideck
- Helicopter
- Safety Regulation
- Longline with remote hook
- Hover hook-up
- External Load Mission and Arrangement
- Equipment
- Dangerous goods
- Communication with Helicopter Pilot
