SCBA

Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA) is a breathing apparatus designed to provide air to the user so that the user can breathe independently.

SCBA is used by:
- Firefighters
- Rescue Officer
- Emergency Response Team
- People who work in dangerous environments: Environments filled with thick smoke or toxic/hazardous gases
- Companies that store chemicals on-site that could create hazardous situations

SCBA consists of:
- Area to store air
- Pressure regulator that ensures air flows at a safe and consistent speed, so users don't run out of air too quickly
- Respiratory equipment: Mouthpiece and mask

Different types of SCBA:
- The SCBA that is used as a rebreather that filters, adds, and recirculates exhaled air
- The SCBA that provides fresh air every time the user breathes
- The SCBA that provides air stably

To use SCBA properly, the users should have knowledge about:
- When it will be required
- Components of SCBA
- Safe working practices and controls while using SCBA
- Correct testing and maintenance of the SCBA
- Breathing principles
- Hazardous gas
- Specific protective gear needed for different chemicals
- Associated risks of chemical reactivity and health hazards
