Emergency Management Team

What knowledge & skills should the personnel working as Emergency Management Team Members or personnel providing support to the team have when an emergency occurs?

They must have the knowledge of:

- Major Emergencies

- The role of Plant Manager / #Incident Commander

- The facility & information management in Emergency Command Center

- Pre-planning & maintaining a state of readiness

They should also have the knowledge of various emergencies as follows:

- Type A – a major emergency that is easy to control if managed properly

- Type B – a major emergency that can escalate if not controlled

- Type C – a major emergency that cannot be controlled & that leads to evacuation

They must have the ability to:

- Plan emergency procedures & perform them when an emergency occurs

- Review, manage & assess information available in emergency situations

- Assess the situation, set priorities & take effective action

- Provide information & instructions efficiently

- Provide information to the right institutions

- Delegate authority

- Manage individuals & teams

- Handle incidents

- Deal with injured, stressed & missing victims & personnel

- Prepare & provide #evacuation places, gathering places & temporary shelters

- Overcome extreme weather conditions & #environmental effects

- Keeping facilities from being lost

- Ensure that the #emergency is over

Emergency Breathing System

When used properly, the Emergency Breathing System (EBS) will help you to survive when you #save yourself from an emergency. Therefore, you should know the following things:

- The dangers that will occur when breathing the wrong air & ways to avoid these hazards

- Ways to prepare, check, use, clean, store & repair EBS

- Techniques for doing breathing using EBS

- How to use EBS when in the Helicopter, when the Helicopter is upside down, when getting out of the Helicopter, when underwater & when carrying out the #evacuation process

#EBS is also used as safety equipment by workers traveling to & from Offshore Oil & Gas Installations in #tropical environments by Helicopter. In addition, they must also have the ability to:

Rescue Craft Coxswain

- Ensure that the Rescue Craft is always available

Safety In Confined Space

Workers in Confined Space must always be careful when working in the space because there is always a danger that can disturb them physically. Some things to watch out for are:

- The size of the Confined Space is small so the amount of air to breathe (#oxygen) is limited

- The presence of hazardous #gas & #atmosphere which can result in #incident, #fire, explosions & more

- The entrances & exits in Confined Space are small, so workers will find it difficult to escape from an emergency

Companies that have Confined Space must also comply with the Confined Space Regulations so that their employees can work safely.

Therefore, the workers in Confined Space must have the necessary knowledge of:

- Procedures for working safely in Confined Space

- Equipment to use when working in Confined Space

The workers must also have the ability to:

- Have the Permit to Work in Confined Space

- Use equipment to #enter & #exit Confined Space

- #Protect their breathing

- Take appropriate action to control the #hazard

- Take appropriate action to save themselves when an #emergency occurs in a Confined Space
