The Best Leaders Always Listen

The Best Leaders Always Listen!

In some companies, there are often situations that seem calm but are not good. Some staff & managers ask other employees not to talk to their Leaders. The magic words that are usually used are: "Just me who knows. I will tell the Leader if the problem is too bad & can't be handled".

A very inappropriate behavior in the company! All Leaders in the company must know everything that is happening in the company!

Therefore, the Leaders must have the ability to listen! Effective listening will improve communication & foster a positive work environment where workers feel valued & heard.

Some benefits of "Listening actions done by Leaders":
- Give a sign that the Leader is always there for everyone
- Give attention to the person speaking that the Leader is involved in all processes in the company
- Encourage open dialogue by asking & answering questions & not just saying "yes or no"
- Understand various things that happen, both problems & successes
- Understand the feelings of the person speaking
- Build trust, respect & closer relationships
- Give appreciation for all information provided
- Show seriousness to respond to all information
- Give commitment to handle

The process of listening well can be shown with positive body language:
- Look into each other's eyes
- Nod
- Repeat words back
- Ask questions to make sure
- Provide constructive feedback by offering solutions & follow-ups

Steps To Survive At Sea

Some of the right steps to survive when an accident at sea occurs:

- Stay Calm: Panic will reduce your ability to think clearly & will not solve the problem. Take a deep breath & try to manage stress, stay calm & focus on saving yourself. Maintaining a positive mindset can also help to stay focused on keeping yourself & surviving. You can focus your mind on taking the right steps to safety.
- Stay Afloat: Use available PPE to keep yourself above water: life jackets, life rafts & others. Also, look for all floating objects that can increase your chances of floating.
- Signal For Help: Use flares, whistles, mirrors & any shiny objects to ask for help from other aircraft & ships. Make yourself visible to rescuers.
- Find Shelter: Exposure to weather can be deadly. Therefore, stay in the Lifeboat to protect yourself from the weather & heat from the sun.
- Save Energy: Conserve energy in the body & reduce fatigue by minimizing movement. If you need to move, move at night so that the heat of the sun can be avoided & energy can be saved. Be aware of the surroundings & currents.
- Stay Hydrated: Avoid drinking seawater as it can cause dehydration. Drink fresh water by collecting rainwater.
- Find Food: Look for available food sources: fish, birds & seaweed. Make sure that the food is safe.

Hopefully, the steps above can help you to have a good adventure at sea :-)

Commitment To A Safe And Healthy Workplace

In all industries, there are some important steps to take to ensure safety:

- Provide First Aid: The top priority is employee safety. If someone is injured, start by providing first aid. Ensure that necessary medical attention is given immediately.
- Secure the Scene: Next, secure the accident scene to prevent further harm & damage. Address hazardous materials, electrical issues & other risks immediately. Mark off the area to prevent others from entering.
- Collect Evidence: Collect physical evidence that can help uncover the cause of the accident. Take photos & videos of the scene & examine the conditions & surroundings.
- Conduct Interviews: Talk to Witnesses. Their testimony can be valuable information. This is about fact-finding, not fault-finding, so open communication without blame is important.
- Identify Root Cause: Ask questions about what Safety Procedures were not followed, why the accident occurred & more
- Prepare Investigation Report: Make sure to document your findings. Create a report outlining what happened, contributing factors & root causes
- Recommend Corrective & Preventive Actions: Based on the results of the investigation, propose actions to prevent similar accidents in the future
- Follow-up: Ensure recommended actions are implemented & monitor progress

Conclusion: Incident investigation is an effort to prevent the recurrence of workplace accidents. By doing so, you demonstrate your commitment to a safe & healthy workplace.

EBS For Safety And Survival

Safety is not just about survival, but also about giving the victim a chance to get out of the emergency safely! Give ourselves a chance to survive by being away from an emergency as soon as possible, including making sure that we can keep breathing.

As humans cannot hold their breath for more than 20 seconds, one of the ways to survive is to use the right PPE & equipment. One of the best PPEs is EBS.

When an emergency occurs in a helicopter that is sinking underwater, we must use the EBS so that we can continue breathing until we come to the surface & are rescued.

The Emergency Breathing System (EBS) is very useful for:
- Ensuring safety during an emergency in a helicopter that is sinking underwater
- Providing additional air when they are submerged underwater
- Overcoming the difficulty of breathing underwater
- Overcoming the limited air that can be breathed
- Providing a chance of survival

Some types of EBS:
- EBS that delivers compressed air
- EBS that helps the user to re-breathe the air exhaled by the user's nose after the carbon dioxide has been released (Rebreather)
- EBS that combines compressed air & rebreather

EBS can save lives! Amazing!

Effective Delegation

A Successful Leader can do Effective Delegation, which is to delegate work to members of the team. In any work environment, whether in the military that has high-pressure work or in a corporation that has normal pressure work, the act of delegating work to members of the team is a critical effort for operational success.

By delegating work to members of the team, the Leader builds the best things in the team:
- Ease: Heavy & difficult work can be done easily
- Safety: Dangerous & high-risk work can be done safely
- Trust: Team members who are given tasks feel trusted by their leader
- Appreciation: Team members who are given tasks feel appreciated by their leader
- Multiply Strength: 1 member only has 1 strength, 1 team has several strengths
- Readiness: Team members become more ready to do various jobs according to their abilities

The act of delegating work to members of the team also educates the Leader to:
- Trust the team
- Be responsible for all the decisions
- Support the team by providing various things needed

Stuck Pipe In Drilling

Stuck Pipe in drilling refers to a situation where the drill string cannot be moved up, down, or rotated in the wellbore. This can disrupt drilling operations & cause increased costs & time delays.

There are two types of stuck pipe:
- Differential Pressure Stuck: This occurs when the drill string is held against the wellbore wall by differential pressure. This often occurs in permeable formations where the pressure in the annulus exceeds the pressure in the formation.
- Mechanical Stuck: This can be caused by various factors such as inadequate drill cuttings removal, borehole instability, key placement, or the presence of plastic

A Stuck Pipe can be prevented by doing a few things:
- Monitor drilling parameters carefully
- Maintain proper hole cleanliness
- Use the right drilling fluid
- Manage friction properly
- Stabilize the wellbore
